Wednesday, November 2
Dear Grandma,
Today is Wednesday. We have affectionately known Wednesdays for the past few months as "chemo day". The day you would go and have your treatments. Even without you here, Grandpa Randy still went to the Cache Valley Cancer Center to visit with the "regulars" there. He talked to your favorite nurses and some of the patients that you've "connected" with over the past few months. These patients are our new heroes. They are fighting a battle that no one would enlist in and yet they are fighting it bravely, courageously, day in and day out just like you did. Sometimes it is hard to understand why your battle has ended, we sure do miss you. We are trying to take things a day at a time.
Grandpa Randy has a great idea. While he was talking to the staff at the Cancer Center he was told that there are 200 ACTIVE patients treated at their facility. What an insane number. It is hard to see everyone going on with their day to day life when we know what battles are being fought courageously, silently. So here is the plan. As family and friends we are going to gather 200 blankets to donate to the Cancer Center so that all of the patients will have something warm and comforting to get them through their treatments just like you did. We are going to deliver them the day after Thanksgiving. Mom is going to write a little note to go on each one. Maybe in some way this will bring these brave warriors hope and comfort.
We miss you so bad it hurts. Tomorrow it will be a week since your passing and yet it seems like an eternity since you were here. Hopefully the weeks won't always drag on like this. We know that life will never get easier, we are just hoping it becomes bearable.
We love you!

Dear Little Grandkids,
ReplyDeleteI miss your your Grandma Kandace so very much. Tell your momma Natty that I would love to donate some blankets. Please let me know where to bring them and when. It's just one small thing that I can do to honor Grandma Kandace, my friend, my example and yes, one of my hero's too. She's my precious angel friend now.
Love to you all.
